Admissions Process and Timeline
1. Getting in Touch
Making contact with Fernhill School couldn’t be easier. Simply use our online enquiry form to register interest and our Head of Admissions will contact you to discuss your needs.
2. Contact
On initial contact our Head of Admissions will gather any
relevant information about your child’s learning journey to date and your ongoing requirements. At this stage you will also receive our digital school prospectus and all other relevant documentation to assist you in making an informed choice for your child.
4. The Assessment Process
Following receipt of your information pack you will be contacted to arrange a campus visit. These personal tours are tailored to your needs and can be scheduled on any day to accommodate your personal commitments. During the tour you will have the opportunity to discuss your child’s learning needs in detail, speak to our Head teacher, tour our extensive school grounds, and access our teaching accommodation.
5. Assessment
Fernhill School carry out baseline assessments with new pupils to ascertain where they are in their learning and these are used to inform our teaching and learning should the young person join us as a pupil.
Once an assessment session has been arranged you will be sent a data pack for English and Maths which will help prepare you for the assessment. For the Personal Assessment sessions, pupils will be required to bring their own laptops.
6. Accepting your offer
On receipt of a formal offer you will have fourteen days to accept your place. This will be done by completing and returning the necessary registration documentation and contract. Your place will then be confirmed in writing and all joining instructions sent to you.
7. Meeting Your Buddy
All new members of Fernhill School are assigned a mentor before they join us. This provides them with the security and comfort of knowing that someone will be here to welcome them on their first day and show them around the school and classrooms. Parents are also given a buddy family to link with to ensure they can support their child as fully as possible.
8. Joining Your Class
To manage the transition to Fernhill School we will invite new pupils for induction sessions in school. These sessions will take place within their class or year group and will provide them with the opportunity to experience the teaching and learning which takes place within Fernhill School. These transition days also provide an excellent opportunity to meet existing pupils and other new members of the school.
9. Joining the Fernhill Family
At Fernhill School we pride ourselves in making every new pupil feel welcomed and included. We are affectionately known as the Fernhill Family and once you take the important step towards joining us you will quickly learn why. Pupils and parents alike are welcomed by their buddy and the wider community of staff and parents. This welcome extends to a Welcome Mass, informal meet the Head and Leadership team events and other opportunities to meet new families in a social context. We are committed to ensuring you feel supported in your transition and will assign you a current family mentor to guide you through the transition.
